Snowshoe, Mirror Lake

Date: February 25, 2012
Time: Meet at 9 am for carpool in Portland, OR. Return mid to late afternoon
Where: Mirror Lake, Mt. Hood National Forest, Oregon. Easy-moderate hike, 3.2 miles round trip
Costs: Bring cash for carpool/gas costs and possible dinner
Meeting location: Parkrose/Sumner TC Park & Ride, 9525 NE Sandy Blvd
Items to bring: snowshoes, warm clothes, water, snacks/lunch
Snowshoe rentals: We can stop at Otto’s Cross Country Ski Shop in Sandy, OR on way to Mirror Lake to rent snowshoes if you need. Or you can rent from REI or Next Adventure’s in Portland, OR.

Downhill Ski Trip, Timberline Resort

Join DSF for another fun outing! We’ll be heading to Timberline Resort at Mt. Hood, Oregon.
Where: Timberline Resort

Meet: Please meet at Parkrose Park & Ride, Portland, OR, by 7:30 AM. Departure at 8 AM; carpooling encouraged. Drivers: please bring snowchains/use traction tires. Sno-Park required too. We will depart the ski resort by 4:30PM. Please contact trip coordinator if an alternative meeting location is needed.
Costs: Please rent any needed equipment beforehand (REI, Next Adventure), or rent from the resort; we will not stop along the way. Daily ticket prices are $64 (open – close) and $54 for a half-day (1 – 4 PM) pass. A beginner-lift-only pass is available for $29. Please bring snacks and/or money for lunch; we may stop for dinner in town afterwards. You are responsible for splitting the cost of gas with your carpool party.

Cost: $10.00 cash donation per person as requested by Teacup Lake Nordic Club for keeping trails groomed. Also, there’s the cost of renting Nordic ski equipment if you do not have your own.

Hello all! Snow is here!
We plan to set up 1 or 2 snowshoe events this season. First snowshoe event will be on December 17th to Frog Lake Trail in Mount Hood National Forest.
We will do carpool and leave from Portland at 9 am and return in mid-afternoon. Bring warm clothes, water, snacks/lunch, snowshoes. Also, bring cash for carpool gas and possible lunch after snowshoe hike.
If you need to rent snowshoes, we can stop at Otto's Ski store in Sandy, OR on way to Frog Lake or you can rent from REI or Next Adventure's in Portland.

White River X-Dog SnowShoe Event

The oldest and largest snowshoe event in the west! You can't miss it! There's an 8k and 4k - all abilities welcome.
When? January 22, 2012, Sunday at 10 am
Where: White River West Snow Park, Mt Hood Forest, Oregon
How much: $25-30 ($35 on day of race)
If no snowshoes? We can stop at Otto's in Sandy, OR on way to the event.
We plan to take off for the mountains at 7:30am and then be back in Portland around 5pm (we will have lunch together afterward - possible at one of several restaurants in Government Camp). It is recommended that you bring CASH for lunch and carpool gas.

Is Sno-Park pass required?: Yes
Directions: Teacup Lake is conveniently located on Oregon Highway 35, one mile north of Mt. Hood Meadows turn-off, and thirty-five miles south of Hood River. From Portland, east on U.S. Hwy 26, to junction with Oregon Hwy 35, then north towards Hood River. Continue past the Mt. Hood Meadows ski area junction, watch for the Sno-Park just after the Hood River Meadows junction. From Hood River, or points east and west from Interstate 84, go south on Oregon Hwy 35 from the town of Hood River, 35 miles to Teacup Sno-Park. Teacup Sno-Park is available for parking; Oregon or Washington SnoPark permit required. Clark Creek SnoPark (across Hwy 35) is also open and can be used for overflow parking.

There are two forms of cross country skiing, classic Nordic skiing or skate skiing. We will do classic skiing on groomed trails. If you are new to this, I would be happy to provide instructions before we begin and give tips while we ski. REI in downtown Portland rents Nordic ski equipment (see more stores listed in PDF).
