Bike Workshop Times

Get your bikes ready for the summer! The Deaf Power Organization is proud to announce 3 bike workshops for the month of May. These workshops are designed for the novice bike rider who wants to understand basic bike repairs, maintenance, safety and equipment. These workshops will be conducted in American Sign Language by your Deaf Bikie hosts, Chris Balduc and Mark Long. They are FREE of charge to all Deaf and signing members of the Portland and Vancouver community.
These workshops are provided by the generous support of Eric Deady of the Bike Commuter shop in Sellwood.

(A map is on the website)
He is making his shop space available for us to use. Thanks Eric!

May 4th - SAFETY AND EQUIPMENT - Learn basic safety on the roads and ride with confidence! We will cover good riding habits and some basic laws. Also we will give advice about riding in traffic and show you some of the streets in Portland that are safe for riding on. What parts does your bike need to keep it rolling smooth? What clothes and safety equipment should I have? You don't need to bring your bike to this workshop, but you will be able to buy equipment and parts through the store. Bring your bike and Eric will help you find what you need!

May 11th - BASIC REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE - This workshop will cover basic repairs all bikers should know so you don't need to walk home! Fixing a flat will be explained. Adjusting your body to the bike will also be covered. Bring Your bike to this workshop!

May 18th - More ADVANCED REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE will be covered at the last workshop. How to adjust the brakes. How to clean the chain. How to repair a bike tube. And whatever else we can fit in. Again, bring your own bikes because you will work on them.

Please spread the word! Deaf Power Org. is here to help out all PDX and Vancouver Deafies who love to ride but need to learn more and get their bikes ready!!

COME JOIN US! If you have any questions, ideas or suggestions on what to cover in our workshops, email us and we will answer them!

Mark and Chris
